University of Massachusetts Lowell - South Campus Improvements*

The campus improvement project for the South Campus at UMass Lowell began with the development of an overall Master Plan. Working with the University’s funding schedule and improvement goals the plan was developed and divided into six construction phases. Design and construction of phase one and two were completed in summer of 2003. Providing accessible routes and pedestrian safety and accommodation were primary design objectives. New walkways, lighting, bus plaza and landscaping were all part of these two phases of work. Overall beautification of the campus was vitally important to the school’s image and first impression to perspective students.

University of Connecticut; Storrs Campus Fairfield Road Improvements**
Location: Storrs, Connecticut
Client: University of Connecticut
The reconstruction of Fairfield Road was part of a huge bond initiative, Connecticut 2000, which provided funding for several new building projects on the U-Conn Storrs campus. Fairfield Road, previously a desolate vehicular road and parking area, was redesigned as a primary pedestrian access. Several new academic building, including the Student Union and main library, were constructed along the corridor creating a vibrant center of campus activity. The project included several plaza spaces and green spaces available for outdoor classrooms. Extensive planting, pedestrian lighting and decorative paving, were incorporated as critical elements of the corridor transformation.

Fessenden School and Shore Country Day School*
Location: Newton, Massachusetts and Beverly, Massachsetts
Client: Shawmut Design and Construction
Working with the design-build company, Shawmut, site design for two private schools was completed in conjunction with building expansion projects. Each project required attractive landscape design while also providing a safe environment for children K through 8th grade, and ADA accessibility. The work was finished on a fast-track, design- build schedule coordinating with the building project timeline.
